About me

Hi, I am Aimin (or Eamon). I am a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Division of Information Science and Engineering (ISE) at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, working with Prof. Mikael Skoglund. My research asks how communication systems should deliver information that is not only reliable, but also timely and useful for the decisions it serves. I study this question through the lens of information theory, with the goal of laying the foundations for communication and decision-making in networked systems.

I received my B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen) (GPA ranked 2nd and 1st, respectively). My undergraduate thesis received the Best Undergraduate Thesis Award, and my doctoral dissertation was the EE Department’s sole nominee for the Best Dissertation Award. During my Ph.D., I was a visiting researcher at the A*STAR Institute for Infocomm Research (I²R), Singapore, with Prof. Sumei Sun. Before joining KTH, I was a Postdoctoral Researcher at Middle East Technical University (METU), Türkiye, working with Prof. Elif Uysal on the ERC Advanced Grant project GO-SPACE.

My research centers on information theory, Age of Information (AoI), and semantic and goal-oriented communications, drawing on channel coding, stochastic and network optimization, and applications in non-terrestrial networks. I am also exploring the interface between information theory and physics. My work has appeared in venues such as IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, ACM MobiHoc, IEEE Transactions on Communications, IEEE INFOCOM, and IEEE ISIT.

I have served as a Guest Editor for Entropy and Electronics and as a Session Chair at IEEE ITW 2024 and IEEE Globecom 2024, and I review for over 30 journals and conferences, including IEEE TIT, JSAC, TON, TCOM, TWC, TMC, ISIT, and INFOCOM.

Outside research, I read classical Chinese literature and recite poetry, where I find the same quiet beauty as in a good proof. I also play the violin and hike, and plan to explore the forests and archipelago around Stockholm. My motto, "复杂中见序" (order in complexity), guides me in research and in life alike. Having lived in China, the United States, Singapore, and Türkiye, I look forward to my first Swedish winter.
