Short Bio

Dr. Barış Demirbay received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Physics Engineering, from Istanbul Technical University (ITU) in 2015 and 2017, respectively, specializing in film formation and electrical conductivity properties of polymers reinforced with nanofillers. He also completed his minors degree studies in Electrical Engineering department at the same university in 2017. Afterwards, he joined KTH Royal Institute of Technology in 2018 as a Ph.D. student & research assistant and received his Ph.D. degree in the subject area of physics specialized in biological and biomedical physics in 2023. During his Ph.D. studies, he took part in scientific activities including teaching M.Sc. students in the department of Applied Physics, performing biological experiments and multidisciplinary research and developing open-spectroscopy setups, fluorescence microscopes and codes for data analyses.

Besides Ph.D. study subjects, he also passionately collaborated with his former supervisors at ITU to take part in artificial intelligence-based projects where he gained a broad experience in artificial neural networks proposed for modelling different properties of semiconducting materials. He currently serves as a reviewer in scientific journals of Soft Computing and The European Physical Journal Plus by Springer. His research interests include photo-physics of fluorescent molecules, fluorescence-based transient state imaging, fluorescence correlation spectroscopy, optical systems, machine learning and nanocomposite materials. He is currently working as a faculty lecturer in department of mathematical and natural sciences at Özyeğin University.
