About me

Seren Dincel is a doctoral candidate in Architectural Design, Technology, and Representation at KTH School of Architecture. She holds Master’s degrees from Hochschule Wismar and Sapienza University of Rome, as well as a Bachelor’s degree from Bahçeşehir University in Istanbul. Alongside her academic work, she has experience in architectural and urban lighting design practice, contributing to projects in Sweden and internationally during her time at AFRY Architects, Zumtobel, Sweco and JVL Studio.

Her doctoral project adopts a design-based approach, integrating prototypical interventions, in-situ light measurements, and dialogical engagements with local and professional stakeholders. Through these methods, she examines how ecologically informed lighting practices can be developed and implemented within urban green spaces. The research is grounded in several cases, encompassing a testbed environment in Sweden and international design projects, and seeks to advance after-dark planning knowledge for enabling multispecies coexistence. The doctoral work is embedded within the transdisciplinary consortium NorDark, a project investigating “Unconventional methods to inform sustainable design: Mediating the needs of people and nature in Nordic after-dark environments”, funded by NordForsk and the Swedish Energy Agency.  Between 2022 and 2025, she contributed to research activities in WP4: Lighting Design (KTH) and WP2: Chronobiology (Stockholm University). In 2026, her doctoral project continues with the support of a dedicated grant from Bertil och Britt Svenssons Stiftelse för Belysningsteknik.
