Positioned at the interface of biotechnology and medicine, I am a physician-researcher passionate about harnessing the power of spatial omics to answer fundamental questions of human health and disease while advancing these tools towards precision medicine applications.
My current research focuses on spatially informed molecular profiling of early human embryogenesis, with a particular emphasis on heart development. By analyzing unique human developmental tissues and employing a wide range of state-of-the-art omics technologies and bioinformatic tools, I investigate spatial patterns during pivotal stages of early heart morphogenesis. My work aims to elucidate human-specific paradigms, including cellular diversification, cell-cell communication patterns, regulatory interactions, and the molecular and cellular microenvironments that shape the differentiation paths of cardiac cells, ultimately leading to the formation of the structurally and functionally complex four-chambered human heart. These insights are key to unraveling the molecular underpinnings of congenital heart disease, refining iPSC-derived cardiac organoid systems, and driving advancements in cardiac regenerative medicine, while also paving the way for systematic molecular analysis and modeling of other developing organ systems.
