About me

Martin Nilsson is an Industrial-PhD student in the at KTH working for the Swedish TSO, Svenska kraftnät.  He received his BSc and MSc degree in Energy Systems from Uppsala University. Prior his PhD studies he worked for 3 years with physical power production optimization for the pan-Nordic Power Company Fortum Generation and for 1.5 years as analyst/investigator for Svenska kraftnät.

The focus of his PhD project is to develop a framework to evaluate different balancing strategies supporting Svenska kraftnäts missions. With a balancing strategy, we here mean something a TSO can do that affects the system balances. It can be new workprocesses in the control-room, a restriction to the balance responsible parties and/or changes in the automatic reserves design.

The project has resulted in a model using available multi-area data and a framework using the developed model. The framework has been tested in different case studies evaluating newly developed balancing strategies.
