About me

Head of the Division Material and Structural Mechanics in the Dept. of Engineering Mechanics

I graduated as MSc in Engineering Physics 1989, PhD 1994 with habilitation 1999.  PhD student 1989-1994, project employee 1994-95, assistant professor 1995-97, associate professor 1997-2006, full professor from 2006.

I holdSverker Sjoström´s chair of Reliable Structures. The chair is funded by Scania CV AB, today a part of TRATON*.

I have  been principal or co-advisor for 14 PhD students, who have obtained a doctorate, 2 who have obtained a licentiate degree, and for 5 who have not yet passed a degree. I have published more than 60 papers in scientific journals and reviewed conference proceedings.

I have been a teacher for more than 30 years - in basic courses, advanced courses, doctoral courses and tailor-made industrial courses. The duties have been as a teaching assistant, lecturer, guest lecturer, laboratory assistant, course manager and course developer. I have been Director of PhD-studies in the Solid Mechanics department, Director of undergraduate studies in the Solid Mechanics department, Responsible for Specialization/profile/track in Solid Mechanics, Program Director for the combined 5-years BSc+MSc program in Engineering Physics, Head of the department of Solid Mechanics, Head of the unit Solid Mechanics. Now I am Head of the Division Material and Structural Mechanics.

My research aims at developing methods based on solid mechanics that are applicable in product development work. Using advanced methods and material description, reliability and robustness can be built into products early in the design process, which gives them superior performance. The research is about "all" aspects of reliable structures.

- load estimation

- physically based design methods, especially for multiaxial fatigue

- methods for computation of the probability of failure of structures

- methods for optimization of structures subject to an allowed probability of failure
