Lucy McCarren

My name is Lucy (she/her), and I am a PhD Student in Technology and Health at the Division of Health Informatics and Logistics. My PhD research explores how AI is imagined, developed, and implemented in welfare technologies, and how these processes shape the provision of care. It brings together participatory design methodologies, technical system development, and the study of policy and governance frameworks shaping AI-enabled care technologies. Through my research, I hope to challenge dominant narratives of techno-solutionism in care and foreground alternative, care-centered technological futures.

I earned a B.Sc. in Mathematics from Dublin City University in 2015 and a M.Sc. in Machine Learning from KTH Royal Institute of Technology in 2023. Oustide of academia, I have also worked as a Data Scientist and Business Intelligence consultant.

Teaching & Supervision:

I am a teacher on CM2008 Entrepreneurship in Technology and Health, and CM2010 Sociocultural Perspectives to Innovative Technologies, where I teach AI and Machine Learning Ethics, and STS theories. I am a guest lecturer on AK2011 Technology and Ethics.
