Niloofar Minbashi

Niloofar is a Researcher working on advanced analytics in railways. She got her PhD in Transport Science, specializing in Transport Systems, from KTH in 2023. Her PhD research focused on applying predictive analytics to freight train delays. Her professional and academic background is in Railway Transportation Engineering. She got her Master’s in Railway Transportation Engineering in 2015 and her Bachelor’s in Railway Operations and Management Engineering in 2013 from the School of Railway Engineering at IUST.

Prior to her PhD, she worked as a consultant at Hexa Consulting Engineers in Tehran, where she was involved in various transportation projects at different stages of planning and operation. After completing her Master’s, she also worked as a railway engineer for a passenger train operator, where she was responsible for modeling the operation and maintenance of passenger cars at the technical department.

She has extensive experience in research on EU projects, holding various roles, including researcher, task leader, and supervisor. Since her PhD, she has been working on Europe’s Rail (previously Shift2Rail), including: fr8hub, FR8RAIL III, FP5TRANS4M-R, ESEP4Freight, and pods4Rail.

Her research primarily focuses on:

Applied AI: Supervised and Unsupervised Learning, Deployment of ML models

Advanced Analytics: Hybrid modeling combining ML with simulation and optimization

She is passionate about the application of new technologies in railways, advanced analytics in transportation and logistics, and multi-modal and modular transport. Additionally, she supervises and mentors PhD students, as well as MSc students.

She is fluent in Swedish, English, Italian, French, and native Farsi.
