About me
I am Mohanna, a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Sustainable Development, Environmental Science and Engineering (SEED), KTH Royal Institute of Technology. I received my PhD in Physical Geography with specialization in Hydrology from Stockholm University.
My fascination with water began long before my academic career. Growing up in the mountains of western Iran, I witnessed both the beauty and the vulnerability of natural water systems, which continue to inspire my research today. Originally trained as a civil engineer specializing in water resources engineering, my research journey has evolved from regional water management and the water-energy-food nexus to global hydro-climatic processes.
My research lies at the intersection of hydrology, Earth system science, and climate science. I focus on understanding terrestrial water systems across scales, from individual catchments to continental and global scales, using multi-source hydro-climatic observations, model-based datasets, reanalysis products, and large-scale data synthesis. My work aims to improve understanding of how different components of the terrestrial water system (e.g., storage changes and water fluxes) evolve and interact in a changing climate, with a broader goal of contributing to integrated perspectives on global hydrology.
More broadly, I am interested in developing data-driven and process-informed frameworks that bridge scientific understanding with policy and practice, supporting sustainable water resources management.
