Federico Pevere

My PhD focuses on the study of nanometer-sized particles (nanocrystals or quantum dots) made of silicon (Si), a non-toxic, bio-compatible and abundant material. Si quantum dots could be used as light color converters (absorbing blue and emitting red light) in photovoltaics and as luminescent bio-labels in bio-medicine (for example to label and study tumour cells). By studying them at the single-dot level, my research aims to advance the understanding of their photo-physics and to contribute to their engineering/optimization.
