About me

Fariya Sharmeen has a background in Urban Planning with specializations in travel behaviour modelling, social network analysis and urban transformation. She joined KTH as the Associate Professor of Mobility and Urban Planning. She obtained her PhD from the Eindhoven University of Technology. Her doctoral research was focused on the interplay between social network dynamics and travel behaviour over the life course of an individual. In recognition to her work she received the Professor Piet Rietveld award (2017) for the best doctoral dissertation in the area of transport research and potgraduate award for the best Paper (2013) in Transport Geography Research Group awarded by the Royal Geographic Society.

In recent years, she has been studying the transition to new sustainable transport solutions in the era of emerging technologies (e.g. Mobility as a Service, Demand Responsive Transport), specifically, individuals' behavioural traits, governance transitions and policy responses towards smart public transit systems and cycling innovations.

Prior to joining KTH,  she worked as Assistant Professor (Sustainable Transportation) at the Radboud University, as Lecturer at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and as research fellow at the Delft University of Technology, Imperial College London, Utrecht University and Cities Institute UK.
