Thorsten Gijsbert Peter van der Kooij

Hej! I am a PhD student in the field of History of Science, Technology and Environment with a focus on Polar geopolitics. My research interests lie in the politics and history of the Polar and Baltic regions combined with a fascination for marine social sciences and humanities. 

I have a background in Modern History and International Relations from the University of the Groningen, the Netherlands. Additionally, I have been affiliated to the Arctic Centre at the University of Groningen as well the Arctic Centre at the University of Lapland in Rovaniemi, Finland. Here, at KTH, I am connected to the School of Excellence in Arctic and Antarctic Learning (SEAL). My specific PhD project focusses on the politics of fisheries in the Polar regions.

Next to my academic work, I play violin and viola, also being a classic music enthousiast. Additionally, you will often find me outside in nature.
