About me
Hi!
I am anassistant professorworking in the field of sustainable metallurgy. My position is supported byWISE Wallenberg Initiative Materials Science for Sustainability, and I am theKTH's representative of Strategic Influence Network Group (SIGM) on Green & Circular Metals of EIT RawMaterials.
My research focuses on thegreen transitionof theiron and steel industry, valorization and recycling of industrial residues, andenhancing the resilience of EU raw materials industry.
Projects that I am currently involved in:
[1] EU RFCSBioReSteel project (2023-2027) - Goal is to extract phosphorous from hydrochar (a type of biochar) to produce green fertilizer and to use the "clean" hydrochar for replacing fossil coal used in the EAF process - I am the leading researcher from KTH. Read more about the project here: https://bioresteel.eu/partners.html

[2] Vinnova -Sustainable fluxing in the AOD process (2024-2025)- Aim is to identify potential replacement for flourspar consumed in the stainless steel production (AOD) process. Project partners :KTH,LTU,Outokompu,Alleima,Jernkontoret
[3] Vinnova -Eldfasta material vid ståltillverkning: mekanismer för foderslitage (2024-2025)- Aim is to study the mechanisms of refractory wear in the stainless steel production (AOD) process. Project partners include:KTH,Outokompu,Alleima,Jernkontoret
[4] Vinnova-Förlängning av livslängden hos eldfasta material och eliminering av flusspat i AOD-processen-The main objective is to conduct extensive industrial AOD trials to verify the slag solutions for minmizing flourspar consumption in the stainless steel production process, with additional aims of evaluating high-temperature slag properties and enhancing the recycling of AOD slags. This project funds the doctoral study ofQingxin Xu at our department: https://www.kth.se/profile/qingxinx.
