PROFESSOR, AVD CHEF
Dr. Yifang Ban is the Chair Professor and Director of Division of Geoinformatics, Vice Chair of Department of Urban Planning and Environment at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. Before joining KTH in 2004, Dr. Ban was a tenured Associate Professor at York University in Toronto, Canada. She was an Assistant Professor at Stockholm University during 1998-2000 and a Senior Research Engineer at KTH during 1996-1997. She received a Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo in Canada in 1996.
Prof. Yifang Ban's research interests include multitemporal remote sensing, SAR and optical image analysis, multisensor data fusion, image segmentation and classification, change detection, land cover mapping, urban analysis, 3D visualization, spatial analysis and modelling, and environmental impact assessment. She has published extensively on these topics. Prof. Ban is a co-chair for the International Cartographic Association's Commission on Sensor-Driven Mapping and and is a co-lead of GEO SB-04 Global Urban Observation and Information. Dr. Ban chaired the ISPRS Inter-Commission II/IV/VIII Working Group on Global Land Cover Mapping and Services during 2012-2014, and co-chaired the European Association of Remote Sensing Laboratories (EARSeL) Special Interest Group 'Temporal Analysis of Satellite Images' during 2011-2015. She is a scientific committee member for a number of major international conferences including International Symposium on Remote Sensing of Environment, Joint Urban Remote Sensing Events, IGARSS 2015 & 2014, Multitemp 2013, International Conference on Earth Observations for Global Changes, and ESA Living Planet Symposia. As the European Lead PI for the Urbanization and Environmental/Climate Impact project, Dr. Ban received awards from ESA and Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) 'in recognition of the outstanding contribution to the success and achievements of the MOST/ESA Dragon 2 Cooperation 2008-2012 and Dragon 3 Cooperation 2012-2016'.
Dr. Ban was an EU expert for evaluations of European Research Council proposals, FP7 Marie Curie proposals as well as proposals for various national granting agencies. She was an Associate Editor for IEEE Journal on Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing during 2013-2016, the Lead Guest Editor for the International Journal of Remote Sensing Special Issue on European Remote Sensing and for the ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Theme Issue on Global Land Cover Mapping, as well as a Guest Editor for IEEE Journal on Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing Multitemporal Remote Sensing Special Issues in 2014 and 2016.
