Research Goals

The main goal of this research centre is to address scientific and technical hurdles impeding the widespread use of hydrogen in sustainable energy systems, by combining activities on production, storage and distribution, and use of hydrogen in a single coordinated research effort.

The large importance of hydrogen in Europe’s transition towards a sustainable and decarbonized energy system has been outlined in a Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda by Hydrogen Europe. It describes how hydrogen besides electricity will become “the main energy vector that enables a zero-emission Europe”. The strategy includes three important pillars: production, storage and distribution, and use of hydrogen. These are the same important areas that we intend to address in PUSH. The strategy report also points towards the importance of obtaining synergetic effects by integration of hydrogen into the existing energy and transport systems.
