Big Brains, Big Data, and Design to Test Cloud Services at Scale, Chris Mitchell, Microsoft

Inspirationsföredraget är helt frivilligt och öppet för alla intresserade. Det är 24 september 2014 klockan 17.15-18.00 i sal E1. Den som vill kan stanna och ställa frågor till Chris efteråt.

Abstract

Unit and functional tests alone aren't enough to test large cloud services at scale.  Cloud services not only need monitoring, but they also need continual testing.  We will explore use of big data and deep technical understanding to verify a cloud service is working on each and every request.  This big data puzzle is filled with lots of ambiguity, very messy and heterogeneous data, and a dynamic and changing datacenter and codebase.  Obstacles include how to gather all the data we need to make product decisions, respect privacy, and not drown in useless data.

About the Speaker

Chris Mitchell is a Principal Development Engineer for Microsoft Developer Center Norway focusing on search technologies.  Prior to moving to Oslo, Norway, Chris worked at Microsoft in Redmond, WA on Microsoft Exchange Server focusing on performance, scalability, and optimization of both enterprise and cloud services with special emphasis on disk I/O and storage, server to server networking, and optimization of managed code (C#).  Chris studied Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his hobbies include amateur radio and modernist cooking.
