NoSQL Databases

PNUTS, HBase, Neo4j, Cassandra CouchDB MongoDB, Voldemort, Redis, Riak, Scalaris, FlockDB, Hypertable, .. there are a number of NoSQL databases. In this project you will select a set of databases and do performance messuerments. You will use the Yahoo! Cloud Serving Benchmark (http://research.yahoo.com/Web_Information_Management/YCSB) but before running these benchmarks you need to get familiar with the tecnologies, select a set of systems and examine how they approach the CAP theorem. You should then decide which properties are the most relevant and then set up an environement where you can run your experiments.

The objectives of this project are the following:¶


* Get familiar with NoSQL technologies
* On a subset of the proposed DBs, study:


* characteristics, CAP properties
* application domains

* Install and learn how to use YCSB
* Design and execute an evaluation / comparison strategy
