FAQ

You can find answers to some common questions below:

1. Questions about courses that you participate in should be asked here at KTH Social

If you ask the question here at the course home page. I promise to answer it directly - in that all other students with the same question as you can get the answer at the same time. Also, remember that your question already can have its answer here. If your question is of a private matter (e.g. concerning your registration on the course, with civic number and all); remember to choose “the teacher of the course” as the only recipient, so that only the teacher and you can read the Q&A.

2. Registration on course

If you didn't register to the course (check on “my pages” if you are registered or not) when the lists for this were circulated (the first three classes of the course), or if you need to re-register because you were a student in an earlier year, send a mail to Afzal Lotfi at afzal.lotfi@indek.kth.se to do that. But; you must be signed on to the course by your international coordinator first (if you are not; ask him/her to do that first). If you participated in the course earlier and now e.g. would like to participate in the examination, you will get access to the course in KTH Social by choosing it, subscribing to it, and then follow the information at the top of the course home page to choose course round.

3. When/where is the next lecture/when is the next examination given?

If you have a question about when/where a lecture or an examination is given: The answer is in most cases to be found at the student web. KTH has a schedule generator at www.kth.se/student/schema?l=en_UK, were information about lectures and exams are provided. A schedule is also provided in the syllabus at KTH Social. Concerning homework assignments: follow the information in the syllabus of the course and the information given at KTH Social.

4. Late registration for exam

In general, you need to register in due time at ”My pages”, www.kth.se/student/studok?l=en_UK. Maybe you can get more information from your international coordinator? This is your responsibility to keep control over.

5. What is the content of the exam?

Earlier exams can be found on the page "Homework assignment" to the right.

6. What room number/phone number/mail address do teacher/officer xx have?

Look it up at www.kth.se/gemensamt/sok-anstalld?locale=en_UK.

7. My results are not registered yet – can this be solved?

These kinds of problems often are a result of students that do not register on the course – and since you cannot register results on an un-registered student, these problems occur. What you need to do is to check with Afzal Lotfi at afzal.lotfi@indek.kth.se – she is in control of the registration process for results.

8. Can I study your course at a distance?

No, this is not possible; my course builds on you participating at place. However, please note that not all parts of the course are obligatory; you can choose, at your own responsibility, not to participate in the non-obligatory parts. But in those cases, no extra help is provided; you
do not get individual education because of this.

9. Questions about homework assignment reports

For the assignment, I put a lot of effort and time in constructing a report, describing the suggested solutions, general information on how to get a higher grade, and specific information to all students about their contributions. I expect you all to read that report, that is the reason why it can be found at KTH Social. There you have most of the answers. If there is no answer to your question; ask the question at KTH Social, and I will answer it (but, again, only if it can't be found in the report).

If you ask me "what do I have to write to get the grade A" or something like that, this is a question that is impossible for me to answer. I can think of four reasons for you to ask this question:

  1. You do not know what of your answers that are good, or what of your answers that are bad. This is not a good ground for a higher grade. In this case, I think you need to spend more time in comparing your answers with the suggested solutions.
  2. You do not know how the assignment is graded. In this case, you should read the grading instructions in the report for the assignment.
  3. You do not know what the correct answer is. In this case, you have to consult the text book, the slides and the notifications of the course.
  4. You do not know the rules for receiving higher grades. In the report you have both text about your individual work, stating the maximum grade you can receive by just reworking it (if nothing stated here, it is not possible to reach a higher grade by those means) and general rules, applicable to all, on how to reach one or two grades higher (OBS! The individual and the general rules can always be combined). Read these instructions!

Remember, if I answer the questions for you, you haven't learnt anything from it and therefore you shouldn't have a higher grade.
