I start with a welcome address and an introduction to the present course. I will also go through some administrative issues and aspects telling you how to succeed in this course.

Subject-wise, we start off with basics and eventuelly lead over to the Euler turbine equation.

We continue the analysis of the Euler turbine equation and move over to a system perspective, in which we treat the turbomachine as a device that adds or extracts energy to/from a system.

We focus on different types of pumps and the role of blade rows, which will eventually take us to velocity triangles.

We continue working with velocity triangles and lead over to design parameters and constructional aspects.

We now focus on design and off-design operation of pumps and learn how we can determine the operating point of a pump when connected to a system.

We learn about the preliminary design of pumps and affinity laws.

This lecture is primarliy dedicated to hydro turbines. We analyze these types of machines on the background of pumps that we have treated so far.

Q&A session ahead of the exam

The exam will be conducted online in Bilda. On-campus students will perform this in one of the computer rooms in the M-building. Distance students will perform this under supervision upon agreement with the course responsible.

This is now the first lecture of the second part in which I will go through turbomachines for compressible fluids.
