Lecture #10: From Politics to Actions - Tools for Climate Change Mitigation

" We are NOT being precautionary enough" (Prof. Semida Silveira, 2012)

Points to remember:

  • A question that we need to keep in mind is: If facing climate change is similiar to goals of Agenda 21, what do they not have in common? The time table are different. Agenda 21 presents an open date, which means meeting the goals gradually. The Climate Change Agenda defined a date, which demands a rather sooner approach. This means meeting the goals suddenly.
  • The goal: Achieve the stabilization of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system.
  • The greatest contribution from Kyoto Protocal is the establishments of institutions worldwide to face the challenge of climate change.
  • We must learn to do policy as business non usual.
