The Powertrain Manufacturing for Heavy Vehicles Application Lab – a Collaboration between KTH, Fraunhofer and RISE (PMH Application Lab) is pleased to announce that Ovako has recently joined our R&D cluster as new industrial partner.

Founded in Sweden with a history over 300 years, Ovako is a leading European producer of engineering steel for customers in the bearing, transport and manufacturing industries. Ovako has ten production sites and is represented in more than 30 countries. The sales of Ovako in 2016 amounted to EUR 781 million and the company had 2,800 employees.

Ovako will as member of our R&D Cluster participate in this year’s collaborative R&D projects. The results of the collaborative R&D projects will be generated by the research partners  in the R&D Cluster and will be shared with all current  industrial partners .

“We are looking forward to the collaboration with Ovako.” says Jannik Henser, Managing Director of the PMH Application Lab “In particular Ovako’s expertise in the field of clean steels is of great value in our current collaborative R&D projects. The good fatigue properties of clean steels can lead to better designs of powertrain components with increased power density and reduced weight, inertia and fuel consumption. If we are able to develop in these pre-studies robust and economic machining and forming processes for clean steels in the powertrain production it might lead to individual R&D projects for our current industrial partners with the aim to implement clean steels in their production.”
