School of Engineering Sciences

The School of Engineering Sciences is located at KTH Campus at Valhallavägen, AlbaNova University Center in Roslagstull and Science For Life Laboratory in Solna. Our activities include physics, mathematics and engineering mechanics.

Our research covers almost everything from basic mathematics to applied mechanics. We work with basic research both theoretically and experimentally in almost all areas, often in collaboration with international universities, colleges, research institutes and industry.

From Bold Ideas to Future Quantum Technologies

On December 9, “40 Years of Macroscopic Quantum Physics” was held at KTH’s Albanova campus, focusing on this year’s Nobel Prize in Physics. The event highlighted the experiments that, 40 years ago, demonstrated that quantum phenomena can occur in macroscopic systems, a discovery that laid the foundation for today’s quantum technology. Leading researchers from around the world gathered to reflect on key milestones and explore future opportunities.

MINFLUX – A Breakthrough in Nanoscale Light Microscopy

At KTH’s facility Advanced Light Microscopy (ALM), researchers have access to one of the most advanced light microscopes in the world: MINFLUX. This technology represents a major leap forward for biological research, enabling visualization of structures inside cells at resolutions below 10 nanometers, in both two and three dimensions. It is the first time such precision has been achieved using light microscopy.

Rising Stars workshop for women in nuclear science

During the Nobel Week, KTH hosted the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency Global Forum Rising Stars Workshop, bringing together 40 early career women working across nuclear science, engineering, technology, education and policy. By hosting the workshop, KTH provided a platform for international exchange focused on research, leadership and career development, while strengthening professional networks among participants.
