30 nya professorer och en översyn av utbildningsutbudet
De senaste två veckorna har varit händelserika på KTH. Den 10 april antog rektor nya riktlinjer för granskning och revidering av KTH:s utbildningar och kurser. KTH:s utbildningsportfölj ska vara av högsta kvalitet och internationellt konkurrenskraftig. Utbildningen bör därför bygga på följande sex principer:
- Social relevans och främjande av ett hållbart samhälle
- Unicitet inom KTH, dvs en profilering som inte täcks av andra program på KTH
- Tillräckligt söktryck och genomströmning av studenter
- Integration med KTH:s forskning
- Tillgänglighet för studenter med olika bakgrund vad gäller kön, akademisk bakgrund och nationalitet
- Arbetsmiljö och ekonomi ska vara hållbara.
Mot den bakgrunden har alla skolor vid KTH uppdraget att se över sin utbildningsportfölj vilket vi på ITM-skolan snart kommer ta fram planer för.
Från ett mer personligt perspektiv kan jag berätta att jag installerades som professor vid en ceremoni på Grand Hotel den 12 april, där även hedersdoktorerna fick utmärkelser. Det var ett fantastiskt evenemang, mycket välorganiserat och festligt. I år installerades nästan 30 nya professorer. Som en del av ceremonin visades korta videor av de nya professorernas forskning. Många arbetar inom områden som är relevanta för ett hållbart samhälle. Detta är verkligen inspirerande och det belyser den viktiga roll som KTH spelar.

30 new professors and a revision of the educational offer
The last two weeks have been very interesting at KTH. On 10 April, KTH’s president adopted new guidelines for the reviewing and revision of KTH’s educational programs and courses. The educational portfolio should be of the highest quality and internationally competitive. The education should therefore be based on the following six principles:
- Social relevance and promoting a sustainable society
- Uniqueness within KTH, i.e. with a profile that is not covered by other programs at KTH
- Adequate student numbers and progression
- Integration with KTH’s research
- Accessibility for students with different backgrounds regarding gender, academic background and nationality
- Sustainable in terms of the working environment and finances.
Against this background, all schools at KTH have been asked to review their educational portfolio. At the ITM school we are in the process of developing plans for starting the review process soon.
On a more personal note, I was inaugurated as a professor at the professors’ ceremony at Grand Hotel on 12 April. It was an amazing event, very well organized and very festive. The ceremony also included awards to the honorary doctors. This year nearly 30 new professors were installed. As part of the ceremony, short videos of the research of each of the new professors was shown. Many of the newly installed professors are working in areas that are relevant for a sustainable society. This is truly inspirational and it highlights the important role that KTH plays.
