"Increased knowledge of intrusion gives me power to build more secure solutions."

Meet Lina, one of the students from the online course in ethical hacking.

Hi Lina, tell us a little about yourself. What is your background?

– I work with security research at the Ericsson Research Department. Before I was employed as a software developer of security at ST-Ericsson where I focused on security around sim locks. For the last four years I have worked with trusted computing looking at TPM and SGX and how these can be used to create more secure solutions, for example in a cloud environment.

What made you apply to this course ?

– I wanted to learn more about network security in general and to gain perspective from the "other side", for example of different types of intrusion. This is an area that really concerns me.

Did the course meet your expectations?

– Yes, definitely. Not only has it given me a general education in network security and computer security, but also a deeper knowledge in different contexts within my work. I have learned about various vulnerabilities in computer systems and how these can be exposed to intrusion. We have also had assignments about the ethical aspects of hacking and cyber security. It's so true that increased knowledge of intrusion gives me power to build more secure solutions.

What did you enjoy the most?

– The one thing I really like with the course is the broad content. It has taken quite a lot of my time but it's been great fun.
