The art of shaping the future for 200 years

From a craft school on Mäster Samuels gränd to one of Europe's leading technical universities. Here are selected highlights from our 200-year history, presented in four chapters:

1. From trade school to institute of technology

In 1827, a trade school opens on Mäster Samuels gränd with a mission to boost Swedish industry. Fifty years and several moves later, it has grown into KTH Royal Institute of Technology – with its own campus and an increasingly broad range of education.

2. The first female student

Women make their entrance, the students form a union, and two inventors create something that changes the world's kitchens.

3. Computers, atoms and a Nobel Prize

Sweden's first computer is unveiled, the country's first nuclear reactor is started up, and a KTH professor wins the Nobel Prize in Physics.

4. From body to code

The body's smallest building blocks are mapped in The Human Protein Atlas, a new school of architecture takes shape, and Cybercampus Sweden is inaugurated.
