Information about bed bugs in the library

Published Sep 09, 2025

In early September, bed bugs were discovered in the South-East Gallery of the library. The affected furniture was removed, and measures were taken immediately. Extensive inspections with specially trained dogs were carried out in September and November, and during the most recent inspection in November, no traces of bedbugs were found.

Latest update on bed bugs in the library

On November 7, the library was closed for an entire morning while specially trained dogs from Anticimex carried out a thorough inspection of large parts of the library, including offices, furniture, and textiles.

The result is clear – no signs of bed bugs or any traces of activity were found.

Two of Anticimex’s specially trained dogs carried out a thorough inspection of the library throughout the morning of November 7.

Since the library is open to the public, such incidents cannot be completely ruled out. Unfortunately, we have now been affected, but we are doing everything we can to resolve the situation and restore order.

KTH will also review routines for both action and communication in the event of similar future incidents.

During this fall, as a precautionary action, a bed bug machine will moved around to different areas of the library. Read more: The library is testing an innovative method to detect and combat bed bugs .
