We have the great pleasure to welcome Prof. Mariana Agostini de Moraes from Federal University of Sao Paulo (Brazil) on a visit in the framework of a STINT collaboration project between our two groups. She has accepted to give a seminar to present her work on silk fibroin based materials for biomaterials and drug delivery.

Abstract

Silk fibroin is a protein fiber spun by Bombyx mori silkworm that can be processed in several forms, such as films, fibers, hydrogels or microparticles. A rigorous control on silk fibroin processing conditions must be performed which will ultimately define the structural properties of silk fibroin-based materials. This talk seeks to provide an overview on silk fibroin based materials, especially in multilayer systems, focusing on biomaterials and drug delivery applications.
