International relations
KTH is ranked as Scandinavia's most international university. More than half of the newly admitted doctoral students come from countries outside Sweden, and KTH collaborates with higher education institutions, companies, and organizations internationally.
Global research and education
Research in the modern era is inherently international. For KTH, international relations [A2] are [A3] not an add-on to its operations but a fundamental prerequisite for being a world-leading technical university. Through strategic partnerships, university alliances and capacity-building projects around the world, KTH strengthens its research, education and collaboration – and at the same time contributes to the development of knowledge far beyond Sweden's borders.
Ranking
KTH consistently ranks high in the most prestigious international rankings, including the QS World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. KTH scores high for its international research network and proportion of international faculty – indicators that directly reflect the breadth of KTH's global commitment.
Strategic partnerships and alliances
KTH has deepened strategic partnerships with five leading universities in Asia: Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in India, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and the University of Tokyo. Within Europe, KTH is part of the university alliance Unite!, which brings together nine prominent technical universities to create a new European university model. KTH is also part of the Nordic Five Tech – an alliance between the five leading technical universities in the Nordic region – and the Stockholm trio, together with Karolinska Institutet and Stockholm University.
Priority regions
KTH focuses its international work on five regions outside Europe: China, India, Southeast Asia, Latin America and North America. The USA is Sweden's main research collaboration partner – over a quarter of Sweden's international research collaborations involve American institutions. In Africa, KTH conducts educational and innovation collaborations with partner universities in Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana and Rwanda through the Global Development Hub, with a focus on challenge-driven education and Agenda 2030.
International recruitment and mobility
KTH welcomes around a thousand incoming exchange students each year and offers over 60 English-language master's programs. Every year, more than 700 KTH students complete one or two exchange semesters abroad. More than 700 KTH students complete an exchange semester or year – a third of all KTH graduates have studied abroad during their studies. Through the KTH Global Talent Programme, Swedish companies such as ABB, Ericsson, Saab and Scania can offer scholarships to attract and recruit international talent.
