Indonesia – Sinking into disaster

Indonesia is on the brink of an ecological catastrophe fueled by relentless exploitation of its natural resources. Once rich in biodiversity, forests have been replaced by mines and factories, devastating local ecosystems and leaving fishermen with empty nets as pollution blackens the seas. Tribes who lived untouched by modern civilization now face displacement, and Jakarta, the capital, is sinking under rising sea levels and relentless flooding. As the government moves to build a new capital on Borneo, further deforestation and community displacement ensue. Activist Daru has spent 15 years battling plastic pollution, illegal imports, and environmental injustice, inspiring hope amid the crisis.
