Pooravi
Pooravi comes from India. Before coming to Sweden, she graduated from her bachelor's programme in Biotechnology at Manipal Institute of Technology, in Manipal, Karnataka. She also likes to spend her time traveling and exploring new places.
Why did you choose this master’s programme at KTH?
I chose this programme at KTH because it had a complete package of the most relevant knowledge and techniques required in the research world. This programme covers the informatics and laboratory parts of studies, which is crucial for a life science-related programme, allowing students to choose multiple paths after graduation.
What are the best aspects of your programme?
The structure of each course is detailed in a way that covers the most important aspect of the study and lets the student have a deeper understanding of the actual problems and how to tackle them. The professors engage the students with multiple informative, thorough research articles that make you wonder about the possible new solutions to the problems. There are also several team exercises and discussions which help students in developing a teamwork environment.
How do studies at KTH differ from your previous studies?
During my Bachelors, most of the courses focused on theory rather than their practical applications and most of the application-based work was for wet lab and almost no dry lab. Here at KTH, you have a bit more lab work, which allowed me to explore the side of informatics as well.
How would you describe your time at KTH so far?
My time at KTH has been nothing but wonderful. From learning new courses to brainstorming in classes and making friends from all over the globe, it's been a fascinating and joyful ride, and the facilities are very good. Apart from studies, KTH has a great Student union that comes up with fun parties and trips that are great to go on if you want to make new friends or just chill.
What would you like to say to students considering choosing KTH for master’s studies?
If the opportunity of doing a master’s study at KTH presents itself, grab it. It's not something you would regret. KTH has an amazing quality of education and opportunity that come after you have a degree from here. Apart from the great faculty and knowledge, Stockholm is a beautiful city to stay in, it would help you understand the work-life balance, which sometimes is missed out while doing a master's degree.
