Multifunctional CNFs containing at least two different chemical functionalities

Published Apr 30, 2020

In this research, we are working on fundamentals of chemical and physical modification of wood fibres and cellulose nanomaterials and how to prepare macroscopic materials such as membranes, aerogels and filaments containing the added functionality and to show applicability in new areas.

The project involves the preparation of multifunctional CNFs containing at least two different chemical functionalities and how these can be used to prepare filaments, aerogels and membranes and how to further exploit the multifunctionality of the CNFs to prepare macroscopic materials with, for example, wet-stability which allow further water-based modification. The multifunctional CNFs are also investigated as components in composites where the colloidal properties are exploited in order to prepare nanoscale mixes of cellulose nanomaterials and different polyelectrolytes.
