Sounds of Diversity - Enabling Inclusive Sonic Interaction

Inspired by the experience of playing an acoustic instrument, I propose that one way of enabling musical inclusion for underrepresented groups (e.g. persons with visual- and hearing-impairments, as well as elderly) is to design digital musical instruments (DMIs) as rich multisensory experiences allowing for multiple modes of interaction, while at the same time enabling customization to fit each user’s needs, both in terms of gestural control and provided sonic output.

The Presence Producers - On methods supporting experiences of immersion in mediated communication

This thesis explores telepresence, that is mediated communication where the participants are distributed over different physical locations. Presence is an illusive experience that sometimes arises without much effort and at other times might be very hard to achieve. A production thinking is needed to succeed more often and lower the thresholds. In the thesis three orders of presence producers are identified and described, as well as tools and usage related to technology, spaces and influence from the context.

Eavesdropper: A multi-linear storytelling system placing auditory drama within the walls of a miniature house

Inspired by works in art, technology and HCI-academia, we conceived and constructed a prototype of a novel system, situated on the boundary between radio drama and immersive theatre. By moving a marker around in a miniature house, you will get to know its residents through dramatized dialogue. And if you listen closely, you might pick up on something else. Something out of the ordinary. It seems like someone might be hiding something…

Curious Cycles: Cultivating curiosity of the body during the menstrual cycle.

Curious cycles are a set of cultural probes; objects and interactions designed to gather experiences and insights from five people who menstruate, throughout the duration of a cycle (approximately one month). The objects are meant to provoke reflections on the ways we currently relate to our bodies and bodily fluids and speculate on how we might relate to them in the future.
