Job description
We are looking for one postdoctoral researcher in the area of foundations of data science. The position is in a research team in KTH led by professor Aristides Gionis (https://www.kth.se/profile/argioni/). The research team focuses on developing novel methods to extract knowledge from data, modeling large-scale complex systems, and exploring new application areas in data science. Areas of interest include but are not limited to models and algorithms for knowledge discovery, novel algorithmic and statistical techniques for big data management, optimization for machine learning, analysis of information and social networks, fairness, accountability, and transparency in learning systems. Applicant must have a strong interest in the development of the underlying theory, applications, and methods to distill knowledge from large complex datasets. The advertised position is funded by Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP), Sweden's largest individual research program, and by an ambitious 5-year European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant titled REBOUND, which aims to study the phenomena of polarization and echo chambers in online media, and develop methods to mitigate these phenomena. The postdoc position involve individual and collaborative research, participation in research projects, and interaction with faculty, postdocs, and students. Qualifications
Requirements
- A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
- The successful candidate is expected to hold a PhD degree from a reputed institution.
- The candidate is expected to have vision, ambition, and passion for research, and a strong publication track record in top conferences and journals in data science, machine learning, and/or artificial intelligence. The candidate should be eager to co-supervise PhD and MS student projects.
We are particularly interested in a candidate with several complementary skills, e.g., theory development and application expertise.

- A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline

About the employment
The position offered is for, at the most, two years.
A position as a postdoctoral fellow is a time-limited qualified appointment focusing mainly on research, intended as a first career step after a dissertation.
