Job description
The Department of Mathematics at KTH welcomes applications for a postdoctoral position under the introduction of Kathlén Kohn. The position focuses on research in the intersection of algebraic geometry and deep learning or computer vision.
The position is financed by Kathlén Kohn's Swedish Foundations' Starting Grant Algebraic Vision. The successful applicant will develop the algebra-geometric foundations for one (or both) of the following two key AI technologies:
- 3D scene reconstruction from images taken by unknown rolling-shutter cameras, which is the overwhelming camera technology of today;
- machine learning with deep neural networks. More details can be found here.
The Department of Mathematics at KTH offers a high-class, active research environment within a broad spectrum of mathematical fields, including (applied) algebraic geometry, algebraic statistics, discrete geometry, combinatorics, algebraic topology, the mathematical foundations for data and AI, and mathematical statistics.
Qualifications
Requirements
- A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
- We seek candidates with a strong background in at least one of the following: algebraic, complex, differential, or discrete geometry, mathematics of deep learning, or mathematics of computer vision.
- The successful applicant will be a highly motivated researcher, capable of working both independently as well as in collaboration with other researchers.
- The role requires excellent communication and collaboration skills, as well as the ability to work independently and take initiative.
Preferred qualifications
- A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
- A strong emphasis will be placed on scientific skills,
- Good communicative skills in English, both spoken and written as this will be required in day-to-day work.
- Very good communication and teamwork skills, in particular a willingness to collaborate with both engineers and mathematicians, strong motivation and ability to work independently.
- Emphasis will also be placed on teaching qualifications and
- Awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.
