Between Science and Politics: The Establishment of International Assessments on Climate Change (1985-1994)
This seminar aims to provide an insightful overview of the research project for my thesis. First, I will contextualize the starting point of my research, which dates back to the emergence of the need for international assessments on climate change in the mid-1980s. Additionally, I will present the central questions that guide my research, as well as the primary sources I am using. Then, I will provide a concise introduction to the two case studies that my thesis will explore in depth: the Advisory Group on Greenhouse Gases and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), two influential advisory groups that coexisted during the late 1980s. Finally, I will present preliminary results on the scope and the significance of these two institutions in framing the climate change epistemic and political debates on the international arena.
