Jan Yngve Lavenius
About me
Jan Lavenius is currently a Ph.D. student at the Department of Electric Power & Energy Systems at KTH, Sweden. He received his M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, in 2012. He carries out research under the supervision of Dr. Luigi Vanfretti in the research group Smart Transmission Laboratory, SmarTS Lab, which carries out research to create the smart transmission system of the future.
The research project Real-Time Voltage Stability, RT VS, which is carried out during the doctoral studies is financed by Statnett, the national transmission system operator in Norway. The project aims to provide the system operator with smart algorithms to ensure the voltage stability of the electrical grid by utilizing real-time data from phasor measurement units (PMUs).
Jan Lavenius has a range of research interests, including stability theory of dynamic systems, power system equivalencing, state estimation of machines, machine learning to approximate stability boundaries and to estimate unknown variables in the power system.
