Welcome!

Windows and MacOS

To install FonaDyn version 3.4.1, please follow these steps, in this order.

  1. Log on to the computer as a User that will be using FonaDyn.
  2. If you are updating or re-doing an earlier installation of FonaDyn, you must first run "FonaDyn.uninstall" from SuperCollider.
  3. Open the publicly shared folder containing FonaDyn v3.4.1 at this link
  4. Press the Download icon at the top left. This will download everything shown, in a ZIP file called "FonaDynInstall-3-4-1.zip".
  5. From this downloaded ZIP file, extract the only folder it contains ("FonaDynInstall-3-4-1") as a whole, and place that folder on your computer's Desktop.
  6. If you are updating a working installation of FonaDyn, and your SuperCollider version is at least 3.13.0 then skip to step 13.
On Windows, it is OK to update to SuperCollider 3.14.0.
On Mac, there is a system-library issue that first must be resolved, so please stay with SuperCollider 3.13.0 until these instructions change. FonaDyn will not yet work on Mac with SC 3.14.0.
  7. If you have an older version of SuperCollider installed, uninstall it.
  8. Download the SuperCollider installer for your operating system, from here
  9. Run the downloaded SuperCollider installer.
  10. Download the SuperCollider "SC3-plugins" for your system, from here. It's important to choose the right ZIP file.
  11. There is no installer program for the SC3-plugins. Just extract the folder "SC3plugins" as a whole from the ZIP file, and put it on your system's Desktop.
  12. Now move the folder "SC3plugins" on your Desktop into the folder "FonaDynInstall-3-4-1" that is also on your Desktop. This will cause your previous version of the SC3-plugins to be replaced. If you do not do this step, the previous version is kept.
  13. Open the file "Install FonaDyn for me.scd" This will start SuperCollider, which will copy all the files that FonaDyn needs to their correct destinations. Then, SuperCollider will automatically recompile its libraries, with the new code.

On the Mac only: When you run FonaDyn for the first time, the computer must be connected to the Internet, or Apple's safety checks will not work.

You should now be able to start FonaDyn, using your default audio device for recording sound and listening. In the SuperCollider editor, enter the text  FonaDyn.run;  With the cursor still on that line, press Cmd+Enter (on Mac) or Ctrl-Enter (on Windows).

You will probably want to configure a separate audio interface device, for using a studio microphone and an electroglottograph with FonaDyn. That device must be specified in the SuperCollider startup file. See the provided startup file for examples; and the FonaDyn Handbook, section 1.3, for more information.

When you are satisfied that FonaDyn is working, you can delete the installer program and the ZIP files. To save space, you can also delete the folder "Desktop/FonaDynInstall-3-4-1/SC3plugins"; it has been copied.
