Introduction to theme 1: Discursive design

Homework: Bring a video of discursive interaction design that you find interesting. We will share and discuss these videos in class.

09.55: Vi ses utanför victoria tower (fem minuters promenad från Helenelunds pendeltågsstation, lite längre från kista t-bana) för studiebesök på Screen Interaction. Efter studiebesöket går vi till sics/mobile life.

12-13 lunch : det finns ett lunchrum för de som har medhavd mat, annars kan man gå till gallerian, lunchrestaurangen i electrum, eller liknande.

13-15 crit: 10 minuters presentation där ni beskriver:
- hur ni lagt upp arbetet och vad ni kommit fram till hittills
- projektets status, dvs senaste skisser, prototyper, ev video, affärsmodell, relaterat arbete, ev feedback från användare, etc
- hur ni tagit till er den feedback ni fick förra veckan
- hur ni planerar att lägga upp arbetet i nästa vecka

Reminder from design brief:
- Present a prototype where the business model is clearly coming across (can be video prototype, a wireframe, interface mockup, or working app) 

- Write a report (pitch) that in a selling way explains your idea (deadline Monday 10 am)
 --- motivation 
 --- differentiators 
 --- the business model 
 --- main features in the design 
 --- starting budget: what you think it would cost (in time and money) to actually realise your project (if it isn’t already :) )

Preparations (during the week):

Set up (at least) two interviews with someone in the target user group, and/or relatives. Look up info online. Consider potentially problematic issues of designing for the target group. Think out some realistic user scenarios and do some initial sketching. Important: before conducting the interviews you should set up a 15 minute consultation with one of the teachers to get feedback on study setup.

In class: Give a 10 minutes summary of the work of the week and status of project. The critique session is for sharing ideas and getting feedback, so try and be as specific as you can about what you want feedback on. The summary should contain:
- main learnings from interviews and other sources of information
- basic user scenarios + motivation
- initial sketches (3 different sketch ideas/group)

Write (individually):
A short reflection of maximum 1 page, that you bring to the seminar in 4 copies. If you have no access to printer then email it to me (ylva) in advance and I print it for you. Include issues that you find problematic, important, difficult to understand, or especially interesting in relation to your ongoing project and/or interaction design in general.

During class we will divide in small groups to discuss the paper in the light of your reflections.

Note that due to double booking with another course, the final crit is on monday, thus you are free to plan your work on friday as you like. I'll be available in my room from 10-12, and you are of course very welcome to drop by then if you like to discuss anything. I'll be busy the rest of the day until 16, so if there is something urgent and you don't have time before then let me know and we can take it then.

Bring 1 page of reflections in 4 copies.

Next deadline: Friday afternoon: before 17:00 - send in a short description of the materials you plan to work with in the next week.
This should contain 
1) a music style or subculture
2) dressing garment or accessory to focus on (e.g. scarf, bag, hat, gloves)
3) technology (mp3 player hack, headphones modding, arduino lilypad, etc)
4) some ideas for interaction

Send as a page on kth social so we all can see and comment on it

During this week you should finalise the documentation of your project, in the form of an online instructable, showing what you did, the most challenging steps, and how you think others could learn and take inspiration from this. You can upload your instructable either at a site such ashttp://www.instructables.com/ or make it your own style for your portfolio only.

We will have a crt session between 13.00-15.00 (no academic quarter!!)
For this you should prepare:
A 10 minute presentation where you show your online documentation to the class.
Sent a link to your online documentation as a comment to this post, before 12.00.

Present (5 min) what you will include in your portfolio, and what you plan to focus on in the next few weeks, e.g.:
- updating some of the projects
- working on the portfolio design, and how

Show the current version of your portfolio. We will discuss in class what we like about it and what can be made even better.

Afternoon: final crit for portfolios

A one-afternoon exhibition at Torget with favorite projects from the course.
