Project rules

Rules for project work

What kind of product can we develop?

The course team is your customer, so your choice of product must be approved by the course team.

Suggest products that provide features or properties which are unavailable in current products. This is not easy, and you will probably need to do some brainstorming. Keep in mind that hiring a team of 4-8 developers (like you) would typically cost between SEK 500000 and SEK 1000000, for the four weeks of project work. So "it's cheaper than X" will not be a good argument for anything that you do.

What are the working hours 2017?

For 2017, the following working hours apply.

  • Mondays: 8-12 and 13-17 (eight hours)
  • Tuesdays, 25 April and 2 May: 8-12 and 13-16 (seven hours, since methodology lecture starts at 16)
Tuesdays, 9 May, and 11 May: 8-12 and 13-17 (eight hours)
  • Wednesdays: 8-12 and 13-18 (nine hours, to compensate)
  • Thursdays, 20 April, 27 April, and 4 May: 8-12 and 13-16 (seven hours, since methodology lecture starts at 16)
Thursday, 11 May: 8-12 and 13-17 (eight hours)
Thursday, 18 May (Project Expo): 8:30-17 with 30-minute individual lunch break
  • Fridays: 8-12 and 13-17 (eight hours)

Note: if a methodology lecture is cancelled, you can of course work eight hours that day, instead of seven hours (and also work eight hours the nearest Wednesday, instead of nine hours).

Day off:

  • 1 May is a holiday, no work that day

Must we work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.?

Yes. The group members need to work together, at the same place, at the same time, to get the best results. See the course book - look for "Seat the team together".

I must do X, at time Y during the project weeks. What do I do?

  • If you are absent up to 8 hours (1 day), in total during the whole project, you and your group should agree on how you can work extra time to compensate.
  • If you are absent 8-40 hours (1-5 days), in total during the whole project, you need to do two things:
    1. Notify the course team in advance, before the first time you will be absent, by emailing F Lundevall;
    2. You will be given an individual task, to be performed in May-June 2017, to compensate.
  • If you are absent more than 40 hours (more than 5 days), in total during the whole project, you fail the course and must take the course again next year.

All absence is treated equally - your reasons for absence do not matter.

The methodology course IV1303

In general, your 8 hours per day should be spent on the project (in ID1003). Additionally, the methodology course IV1303 requires you to take 5-10 minutes each day to fill in a report. Since this is just a small amount of time, it can be included in your daily 8 hours of project work.
