The course HK1 2018 (MF2060, Industrial Design Engineering Advanced Course, Part 1) will start Thursday January 18 at 09:15 in Gladan at Brinellvägen 85. I will then give you a richer introduction to the course, but this is the course in a brief.
The course is a combination of four course elements, all tied together by an overarching project. Each student will in the end make an individual design of a product, but this design will be informed by several other investigations made in groups of various compositions.
The four course elements are; Human Centred Design, Surface Modelling in CAD, Branding and Design Research Seminars.
The product design project is about machines for the home. The context is Stockholm as today, BUT in a circular service paradigm.
The students will design the devices/tools sometimes needed in a home, but provided as a service instead of individually owned products. As service providers we have selected six different brands representing different business strategies such as product heritage, service heritage, brand extension and life style heritage.
Deliverables will be user studies according to type of equipment, brand platform/design brief, and a final design of a piece of equipment for a specific brand. The exercises are all fictional, though we will use real brands and real users to create great products.

All courses at KTH are not using the course web in full. The course web is however always open to students. Students can provide input into the course wiki (eg lecture notes and tips on useful readings), ask questions and discuss the course with other students. There is a moderator function that captures unanswered questions to the public agency KTH and sends them on to the proper authorities.
