The course in a brief

In this course, the students will work in teams with different cases from industry or research. The teams basically act as design-engineering consultancies serving their clients. Each team will consist of seven to ten students, and the cases will have a level of complexity that requires the teams to divide into smaller sub-groups taking responsibility for specific parts of the overall design. The students will work with both design and engineering at a fairly advanced level, with special attention to the intersection in between. We expect the teams to complete a number of iterationsin both the idnustrial design process and in the engineering design process, gradually taking them to their final proposals. For the final deliverable the students should present a well worked through design proposal including a CAD geometry, rendered images and a physical prototype and/or model. The final report should include motivation for the overall design as well as for the solutions on a detail level.

The project will run through the whole semester and incorporate the phases planning, user studies, concept generation and final design.

Teaching consists of supervision with the teams and a number of presentations. The full course is run in English.

About the course website.

The course web is always open to students. Students can provide input into the course wiki (eg lecture notes and tips on useful readings), ask questions and discuss the course with other students. There is a moderator function that captures unanswered questions to the public agency KTH and sends them on to the proper authorities. You can find information about the course schedule aswell on the course web. More information about the course web.
