This course gives a general introduction to Astrophysics. It is aimed at students who have acquired basic knowledge in mathematics and physics during the first years at a Master of Science in Engineering programme, such as Engineering Physics. The participants will be given the opportunity to apply their knowledge in order to understand the processes that occur in the extreme environments in space and how these give rise to the radiation that we can observe. An important part is the practical experience of astronomical observations. The overall aim of the course is to provide the basic tools of Astrophysics, useful in e.g. space industry, as a preparation for further studies and research in Astrophysics, for journalism and teaching at schools, and for general curiosity and interest.
