The research in the Lundberg group focuses on sustainable and mild transformations of carboxylic acids and alcohols using Lewis acid catalysis and electrochemistry. We use a synergistic combination of method development and kinetic analysis to aid synthetic progress and unveil mechanistic features that increase understanding and enable development of new chemistry. Through fundamental research, the aim is to minimize the environmental impact of chemical production by the development of novel sustainable processes, an important topic for realization of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development . The design principles of Green Chemistry are guiding our method development, encompassing the pursuit for robust high-yielding processes that use recyclable air- and water-stable catalysts, require low reaction temperatures and pressures, require minimal product purifications and utilize renewable feedstocks for the production of high value products.
