Konstantinos Paschalidis successfully defends his PhD thesis

Publicerad 2025-05-18

On May 12th, Konstantinos Paschalidis defended his PhD thesis with the title "Modelling the damage of metallic plasma-facing components under energetic transient events in fusion reactors"

We congratulate Konstantinos on becoming a doctor after successfully defending his PhD thesis on the 12th of May.

The opponent for this occasion was Professor Rudolf Neu, from the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (Garching, Germany) and the members of the grading commitee were:

  • Professor Pär Strand Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden

  • Professor Vasilis Dimitriou, Hellenic Mediterranean University, Crete, Greece

  • Associate professor Mathias Hoppe, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden

The opponent, Prof R. Neu, held an insightful discussion with the candidate on various aspects of magnetic confinement fusion and on challenges in the problem of power exhaust in fusion reactors. Taking into account the quality of the thesis and the responses provided during the dissertation, Prof. Neu judged that Konstantinos is in the top 10% of the PhD students he has supervised and/or has been acting as opponent.

Well done Dr. Paschalidis!

Konstantinos' PhD studies were supervised by Professor Svetlana Ratynskaia. More information on his work can be found at Modelling the damage of metallic plasma-facing components under energetic transient events in fusion reactors .
