Summary of Aims

Strategic

Create knowledge and develop techniques required for integrating geographically spread diverse renewable energy sources

Support national demonstration projects Smart Grid Gotland and Norra Djurgårdsstaden with PhD and Post‐doc projects

Innovation related

Optimal operation and design of power systems with a large number of variable sources of power, multi‐terminal HVDC, electric vehicles, and active customers.

Develop storage technologies such as batteries, flywheels, pumped storage, compressed gas and its connection to the network

Develop controllable components in new designs that can safely handle rapid load changes and generation fluctuations

Human resource related

Ensure Sweden can supply its need of electric power expertise by recruiting up to 30 graduate students / postdocs to the center

Integrate center's PhD projects in KIC InnoEnergy innovation projects so that students can participate in these projects
