Carlo Fischione and Gabor Fodor awarded IEEE fellowships

On 1 January 2025, two researchers affiliated to the SweWIN center, Carlo Fischione and Gabor Fodor were awarded the title of follow, a prestigious distinction from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
The grade of Fellow recognizes unusual distinction in the profession and is reserved for a person with an outstanding record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. The accomplishments that are being honored have contributed importantly to the advancement or application of engineering, science and technology, bringing the realization of significant value to society at large.
Carlo Fischione is a full professor in the Department of Network and Systems Engineering and the lead of SweWIN’s research area 5, learning and optimization. This fellowship recognizes his contributions to the theory and practice of wireless Internet of Things.
Gabor Fodor is an adjunct professor in Wireless Systems at the Division of Decision and Control Systems, and a researcher at Ericsson (Radio Department). He was awarded this distinction for contributions to the optimization and radio resource management of cellular networks and multi-antenna signal processing.
Each year, the IEEE Board of Directors confers the grade of Fellow on up to one-tenth of one percent (0.1%) of its voting members. To qualify for consideration, an individual must have been a member, normally for five years or more, and a Senior Member at the time for nomination to Fellow. Up to nine people (including the nominator, references, and endorsers) give their time and support for this elevation, testifying to the contribution to the technical fields of IEEE.
In the same period, both Gabor Fodor and Carlo Fischione were also appointed as fellows of the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association (AAIA) .
