PhD students win Best Paper Award at an international conference

Two PhD students from KTH won MAC track best paper in 2008 IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor, and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC’08). This is a joint effort made by PhD students at two different KTH schools: Bogdan Timus, Dept. of Communication Systems at KTH ICT and Pablo Soldati, KTH ACCESS Centre at KTH EES.

“This award is not only a recognition for a small part of our doctoral studies, but also a reassurance that results from such collaboration may be appreciated by the research community, Bogdan Timus says proudly.

Their paper “A Joint Routing-MAC Model for Cellular-Relaying Networks” describes new models and radio resource allocation schemes for wireless networks.

“This work was the result of common interests and rather informal contacts across institutions and schools borders, Bogdan Timus explains. It started from the need for a tool used to study how radio communication networks can be deployed in a cost efficient way. Our contribution further develops mathematical formulations provided by the literature on optimization techniques.”

“Although our studies have different directions, focus, and typically address different research communities, in this particular case the collaboration was facilitated by an obvious need for a solution to clearly stated problem, Bogdan concludes.”

2008 IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor, and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC’08)

The annual IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC) is one of the premier conferences in the wireless research arena and has a long history of bringing together academia, industry and regulatory bodies. Today, it has become one of IEEE ComSoc's flagship conferences in telecommunications.
