Sushen Joshi successfully defends his PhD thesis

Published Feb 12, 2026

On February 3rd, Sushen Joshi defended his PhD thesis with the title "Insights into Uranus’ atmosphere from HST FUV observations and radiative transfer modelling".

We congratulate Sushen on becoming a doctor after successfully defending his PhD thesis on the 3rd of February.

The opponent for this occasion was Associate Professor Tommi Koskinen, from the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory (LPL), Department of Planetary Sciences, University of Arizona, and the members of the grading committee were:

  • Professor Josefin Larsson, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden

  • Dr. Ulrike Heiter, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden

  • Dr. David Andrews, Institutet för Rymdfyisk, Uppsala, Sweden

The opponent, Prof T. Koskinen, the grading committee, and even the audience held an insightful discussion with the candidate on various aspects of Uranus' atmosphere, Hubble Space Telescope observations, challenges in interpreting Earth-based planetary Lyman-alpha observations, and radiative transfer modelling. Sushen answered the questions excellently and showed great scientific depth and breadth in his responses.

Well done Dr. Joshi!

Sushen's PhD studies were supervised by Associate Professor Lorenz Roth. More information on his work can be found at Insights into Uranus’ atmosphere from HST FUV observations and radiative transfer modelling.
