Available mandatory and optional doctoral courses when studying a doctorate at INDEK

Doctoral courses

Doctoralcourses are preferably taken at the department of Industrial economics and management, but corresponding courses can also be taken at another department at KTH or at another institution of higher education (however, this must be approved in advance by the supervisor and program manager).

Mandatory courses

The doctorate shall include:

  1. Introduction to research studies 6 cr
  2. Orientation on research in industrial economics and management 6 cr
  3. Qualitative research methods 6 cr
  4. Quantitative research methods 6 cr
  5. Theory of science 6 cr

The licentiate shall include:

  1. Introduction to research studies 6 cr
  2. Orientation on research in industrial economics and management 6 cr
  3. At least one of the following:
  • Qualitative research methods 6 cr
  • Quantitative research methods 6 cr
  • Theory of science 6 cr

Requirements for higher education pedagogy

For doctoral students who teach in KTH's education at the undergraduate and/or advanced level, it is mandatory to fulfill KTH's requirements for a course in higher education pedagogy.

Basic communication and teaching

Optional courses 

There is a high degree of flexibility in determining the optional courses (30 cr for doctorates, 12 cr for licentiates) that are included in the education. The exact course syllabus will be specified in consultation with the supervisor and will then be established in the study plan.

Doctoral courses at other institutions of higher education

INDEK's doctoral students are recommended to take courses at other institutions and higher education institutions. In addition to other higher education institutions, courses are also often offered through various academic networks, see for example the following:

  • Norsi  - Nordic Research School in Innovation and Entrepreneurship

  • ScAIEM  - Scandinavian Academy of Industrial Engineering and Management

  • SNABS  - Swedish Network for Advanced Business Studies

  • SSES   - Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship
