Doctoral studies at INDEK

INDEK's doctoral program prepares the doctoral students to become successful researchers, competitive for jobs in academia, as well as in the private and public sectors.

The majority of the research is conducted at a organisational and corporate level, but studies of interorganisational relations, industrial and technological transformation as well as business processes and work organisation are also included.

Some examples of central sub-areas are innovation, industrial marketing, technology-based business development, production economics, logistics, supply chain management, project management, organisational theory, entrepreneurship as well as technology transformation and industrial dynamics.

The faculty has a multidisciplinary background. Our faculty members are distinguished researchers and teachers who stay up-to-date in their subjects through research and publications.

The program promotes close collaboration between doctoral students, faculty and industrial practice, and each doctoral student is part of a research team that specialises within a specific research area.

Program structure

The doctoral education consists of a course component of 60 credits for the doctorate and 30 credits for the licentiate , as well as an essay/thesis component of 180 credits for the doctorate and 90 credits for the licentiate degree.

The doctoral education is to a great extent individualised and structured in relation to the doctoral student's prior knowledge as well as the direction of the thesis or dissertation. The education is conducted under the guidance of two supervisors with expertise within the research topic.

Doctoral courses

The mandatory courses comprise 30 credits for the doctorate and 18 credits for the licentiate.

The courses are preferably taken at the department of Industrial economics and management, but corresponding courses can also be taken at another department at KTH or at another institution of higher education.

The thesis

The thesis should demonstrate the doctoral student’s ability to make an independent contribution to research and the scientific community.
